Hair Restoration

Any surgical or non surgical method to counteract or correct the symptoms of hair loss.

Surgical

Hair Transplants involve taking hair from a donor site that has not experienced hair loss and is resistant to the DHT and transplanting it to areas of significant balding. Once circulation is established to the hair follicle the follicle will be viable. The hair has a natural growth pattern called follicular units where 1 to 4 sepearate hair grows in each follicular unit. These folicular units are what is harvested from donor sites ( usually the back or sides of the scalp)

  • Microscopic Follicular Unit Transplant - Yields the most natural looking soft hairline results because the follicular units are transplanted in single groups of 1 to 4 hairs. The surgery is performed with the assistance of microscopes that will the allow the medical team to divide the donor material to ensure the best yield from the donor site and natural looking coverage. Advantages to this method are less damage to the hair follicle. Highest rate of viable follicles.
  • Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) - Individual follicular units are removed from the donor site and transplanted to the thinning area directly. Hair is removed from DHT resistant areas of the scalp through small shallow punches that usually do not leave visible scars. There is minimal bleeding with the FUE method. The FUE and Microscopic This is the safest and least invasive of hair transplant method. This is performed under local anesthesia. The downside is that the hair follicle can be damaged in the extraction process producing less viable follicular units. Patients with very curly hair are not ideal candidates because the curved root of the hair follicle is easily damaged.
  • Eyebrow Restoration - Anything from over plucking, medical conditions to trauma to the area can cause eyebrows to thin or disappear all together. Our medical team can transplant hair follicles from a donor area and give your eyebrows a shape and thickness that complements your facial structure.
  • Strip Method (Follicular Unit Transplant) - Involves a long strip of scalp being removed from the back of the head from which the Follicular units will be harvested. This method requires sutures to the back of the head resulting in a long linear scar. This method is quicker, cheaper and can allow the surgeon to transplant many more follicular units than with only FUE, but has more risk of infection and more bleeding. This method also causes the least trauma to the follicular units resulting in more viable follicles.
  • Mini and Micrografts - Unlike FUE where individual follicular units are transplanted, larger groupings of 2 to 6 follicular units are transplanted. This method is cost effective, but the result is typically less natural looking and sometimes less viable.
  • Plugs - Hair is transplanted in large grouping of ten or more follicular units. This method is old and outdated and most importantly results are very unnatural and noticable.
  • Skin Flap/Scalp Reduction - This method involves removing parts of the scalp that have extensive hair loss. Usually this technique is reserved for older patients or patients, depending on the pattern used for incision this technique can remove excessive skin and result in a younger looking appearance. Generally, scalp reduction is an older outdated method that leads to unnatural results and significant scarring, numbness and uncomfortable tighteness of the scalp.
